Lucky number 8

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Today marks 8 years at Rackspace for me. What a fun ride. I had the good fortune of seeing some old friends yesterday. Anyone recognize these guys?

That’s all for now…I’m about to get on a plane. Looking forward to tomorrow…

Random thoughts on NPR

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I listen to NPR. I admit it. I guess that means I’m old, but I love it.

When you listen to NPR you hear the same people over and over every day and you start to get to know them…by voice. You start to picture what these folks look like, but everyone has their own image of these folks. Have you ever looked up what these people actually look like? I did…some are decent looking people…others, well as they say “have a face for radio.”

What prompted me to look these people up you might ask? Well, I noticed something a little weird over the last few days. A couple people who I’ve been listening to for years on NPR have started to change their names every once in a while. For example, Deborah Amos refers to herself every once in a while as Deb Amos. And Cheryl Glaser referred to herself today as Cherry Glaser. Did anyone else notice this?

I don’t understand why they’d do that. Are we all of a sudden on nickname terms with these folks? Are they getting old and now they feel like they want to sound a little younger? Hey, this isn’t your dad’s NPR…this is the new, hip NPR. There’s no apparent explanation for this use of nicknames, but I’ll keep listening and let you know if any more crop up.

Side note: By far the best name on NPR…Renita Jablonski. As it turns out, she’s also a bit of a hottie.

Feedburner

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Feedburner’s cool. It tracks how many people are subscribed to your RSS feed like this:

FeedBurner

Looks like I have about 16 people subscribed to my RSS feed. Sad, but true…

Pretty cool, but that’s only one of the features…

It also enhance your feed by adding other “features” to it. For example, you can splice in Flickr photos into your feed, you can add in del.icio.us or bloglines links into your feed, and it allows you to provide your feed in a browser friendly one-click subscription page for easier subscription by your readers. It’s got a lot of cool features that can enhance and even help you monetize your blog. Take a look…
